Yes. AA Insurance is one of New Zealand's most trusted general insurers. Founded in 1994, it is a joint venture between the New Zealand Automobile Association (NZAA) and Vero Insurance New Zealand, part of the Australian Suncorp Group. It holds an AA- (very strong) financial strength rating from S&P Global Ratings and looks after more than 560,000 customers with over 1,100,000 policies. AA underwrites its own policies and sells directly to New Zealanders. Its scale and local underwriting mean claims are assessed and paid by New Zealand-based teams.

AA's core policies are car, home, contents, landlord and renters insurance, plus small business cover. It also insures motorcycles, classic vehicles, caravans, motorhomes and trailers, and offers life, health, pet and travel insurance. That makes it one of the broadest ranges of cover offered by a single New Zealand general insurer.
AA offers three levels of car cover:
Comprehensive (most popular): Covers accidental damage, theft, vandalism, fire and damage to others, including uninsured third-party damage. Includes agreed value and towing; excess-free glass and rental car cover are optional.
Third Party, Fire & Theft: Covers fire, theft and damage to others, plus up to $4,000 for uninsured third-party damage when not at fault. Includes agreed value; excess-free glass optional.
Third Party only: Covers damage to others, plus up to $4,000 for uninsured third-party damage when not at fault. No cover for your own car.

Key features across all three policies include:
One event, one excess: if a single incident affects more than one AA policy you hold, you pay just one excess, the highest applicable one.
Lifetime Repair Guarantee: repairs completed through AA's approved Quality Repairer Network are guaranteed for the life of the vehicle.
Quality Repairer Network: AA uses a nationwide network of trusted repairers to handle accepted claims.
AA holds Canstar's most recent Outstanding Value Car Insurance Award and its Car Insurance Claims Satisfaction Award, with strong ratings across all six driver profiles Canstar assesses.

Disclaimer: these car quotes are indicative only, generated through AA Insurance in June 2026 for one sample driver and vehicle. Your premium depends on your car, location, excess and history, and these figures are not a quote or an offer of insurance. Compare insurers with the Quashed Market Scan.
In Q1 2026, 81% of Kiwis who compared car insurance with the Quashed Market Scan found a cheaper policy, saving $377 a year on average. Choosing a higher excess, as the $1,000 columns show, also lowers your monthly premium. See our guide to the average cost of car, house and contents insurance in New Zealand.
AA offers home and contents cover separately or as a combined Home and Contents Insurance Package. Compared with other insurers on the Quashed Market Scan (AMI, State, Tower and Initio), a few features stand out: These cover differences can matter as much as price when you actually need to claim.
Replacement cover: AA is the only one of these insurers to include replacement cover in its package (excluding natural hazard events), so it can rebuild even if the cost exceeds your sum insured. AMI and State offer it only as a fire add-on; Tower and Initio cap rebuilds at the sum insured.
Renovation cover: AA covers unfixed building materials and renovation work up to $75,000, versus $50,000 at Tower and $10,000 at AMI, State and Initio.
One event, one excess: if a single event damages, say, your home and contents, you pay only one excess, the highest applicable one.
Natural hazard and replacement cover for earthquakes, landslides, volcanic activity, tsunamis and related fires. Under Replacement Cover, your home can be repaired or rebuilt even if costs exceed your sum insured, within policy limits.
Accidental and weather-related damage, including burst pipes, storms and flooding.
Cover for minor renovations and unfixed building materials valued up to $75,000.
Legal liability up to $2,000,000 if you damage someone else's property or cause injury in connection with your home.
AA offers two levels of contents cover: Contents, its most comprehensive option, and Limited Contents, which keeps core protection at a lower cost. Cover includes:
New Zealand-wide cover, so your belongings are protected at home and on the road.
Protection extended to family in rest homes and children living away at boarding school or tertiary study, within policy limits.
New-for-old replacement, so damaged, stolen or lost items are replaced with new or equivalent ones.
Temporary accommodation up to $20,000 if your home becomes uninhabitable after an insured event.
One event, one excess across your AA policies.

Excess-free glass cover.
Excess-free hearing aid cover.
A reduced $100 excess on eyewear.
AA's combined Home and Contents Insurance Package costs roughly $186 to $300 a month across the main centres, depending on city and building excess. These quotes use a $700,000 building (rebuild) sum insured, $60,000 contents with comprehensive cover, a $500 contents excess, no alarm and no claims in the past three years.
Home & Contents Package ($700,000 home / $60,000 contents) | $500 building excess | $1,000 building excess |
Auckland | $197.73 month | $186.45 month |
Wellington | $299.89 month | $286.26 month |
Christchurch | $246.87 month | $233.79 month |
Important: these home and contents figures are a rough guide only, not a like-for-like regional comparison. Each quote is for a different sample property in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, and these homes differ in size, age, construction, rebuild value and natural hazard risk, so they do not reflect what you would pay. These figures are not a quote. Get a personalised price with the Quashed Market Scan.
AA Health Insurance is provided with nib New Zealand across three plans: Everyday (GP visits, dental, prescriptions), Private Hospital (surgery and major treatment), and Private Hospital & Specialist (adding specialist consultations and advanced diagnostics). Each plan can be adjusted with add-ons depending on your needs and budget. AA won Canstar's Most Satisfied Customers Health Insurance Award in 2025, the fourth time it has topped that category.

Pros
Strong financial backing: backed by Vero (part of the Suncorp Group), AA has solid financial stability and a nationwide repairer network.
Wide choice of cover: three levels of car cover and two levels of contents cover let you match protection to your budget.
Service and claims: AA handles support and claims in-house, with 24/7 claims help and a strong claims-satisfaction record.
One event, one excess: you pay only one excess when a single event affects more than one AA policy.
